Attend Befriending

Attend Befrienders aim to reduce social isolation and improve confidence and independence by coming alongside people with Brain Injury, Dementia, Stroke or Mental Health Conditions to provide support and assistance.

Are you able to spend an hour or more each week supporting someone in your local community who has a brain injury, is recovering from a Stroke or who is living with dementia or issues related to mental health?

To achieve this the Attend Befrienders can provide:

  • Regular social telephone or zoom calls
  • Face to face visits
  • Trips to local places such as cafes and parks
  • Support with accessing and attending local groups
  • Help with shopping
  • Signposting to other services
  • Sitting with people to allow their carer some time out
  • Sitting with people who are dying at home

Our befrienders are motivated and committed to their role. All are trained and committed to their role. All are trained in Safeguarding, Lone Working, Infection Control, Mental Health First Aid and End of Life Care. All befrienders have an enhanced DBS check.

A telephone and visiting befriending service is also available for people resident in care homes.

Anyone can be an Attend Befriender as long as you are over the age of 18, have good communication skills, including listening and have a friendly personality.
